Josh Hutcherson awkwardly listens to fan personally singing the Whistle meme to him

September 2024 · 3 minute read

Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson is aware of the Wistle meme which is currently everywhere on social media … and has now had a fan sing the song to his face.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have seen the viral Josh Hutcherson Whistle meme, which has been haunting all of our dreams. No one was sure whether the Hollywood star was aware of the clip’s existence but it turns out he is and fans joke his recent interaction with someone looked like he ‘wanted it to end’. That is, however, after being sung a hilariously awful rendition of the 2012 Flo Rida track by the said fan.

Josh Hutcherson is serenaded with viral Whistle meme

A TikTok video shows Josh Hutcherson having a peaceful walk at night when he bumps into a fan. The guy asks if he can sing for the movie actor. Shocked, Josh responds: “Sing for me?! Yeah!” The person then begins to sing the chart-topping track in a tone that could make eardrums bleed. Amused, Josh stands with his hands in his coat, watching. All the while he keeps his smile wide.

“Ay, nice! Thank you! Thank you so much,” Josh tells the man before the clip ends. We honestly hope the celebrity gets a free therapy session for what he experienced because we feel like we need one.

The meme, similar to being Rick Rolled, sees viewers watching unsuspecting videos get the picture of Josh smiling fade onto their screens as the intro to the Whistle song begins. The video is nearly 10 years old and was first posted to YouTube but has now gained traction again a decade later.

Fans react to the clip – ‘I can’t’

In the comments underneath the video of Josh Hutcherson being surprised with his viral meme, fans reacted to the cringeworthy interaction.

One person wrote: “BYE HIM STANDING THERE AWKWARDLY SMILING. I CAN’T.”

Another penned: “Josh the entire time: [grinning face emoji].”

A third commented: “I can’t believe you had the courage to do this to Josh Hutcherson.”

Some else said” “He was waiting for it to end [two crying emojis].”

Josh Hutcherson’s brother had to explain the meme to him

The 31-year-old appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon recently and told the TV host his brother and brother’s boyfriend had to tell him about it. Josh Hutcherson called the viral Whistle meme “ridiculous.”

“I had no idea it existed. The internet wins again,” he laughs.

“These photos are some edit of a montage of photos that somebody did in 2014. They put it to a song, and now it’s like a Rickroll basically.”

“You think you’re gonna watch a recipe, they open up the pot and it’s my face and the whistle starts. It’s ridiculous,” he said laughing.

“My little brother and his boyfriend actually sat me down during the holidays and were like, OK, you don’t live on the internet, we need to explain this to you.’ They just started going through [the memes] and they are very creative, very odd, and I’m here for it. It’s great.”
