A brawl at a South Jones-Provine basketball game led to one man getting hurt and a lot of local law enforcement officers responding to the gym to give an assist.
Security personnel working the game at South Jones on Friday night called for assistance after a fight broke out, according to the report from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
Travis Conner Jr., 21, a former SJ standout who played football at Pearl River Community College, reported that several players from the Jackson team began assaulting him on the court after the game, according to the JCSD. He pointed out the jersey numbers of three players on the Provine team and told deputies that he didn’t know any of their names nor did he have any conflicts with any of them, according to the report. He referred to a video of the fight that could be used to identify those responsible.
Conner had minor injuries to face and mouth but refused medical treatment, according to the report. Since the incident involved juveniles from Jackson, a report was filed and is being sent to Provine so school officials there can take “appropriate action,” according to the report. School officials were out for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, so it wasn’t known what action, if any, will be taken.
At least a half dozen members of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Ellisville Police Department responded to the incident.
